Content, Language, Instruction Confluence.
As the demand for English skills continues to rise in Japan, the Oklahoma State University (OSU) English Language and Intercultural Center (ELIC) seeks to provide training to Japanese teachers to more effectively create and implement authentic language activities that prepare pupils for communicative contexts globally.
Our CLIC program supports Japanese Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science, and Technology (MEXT) initiatives. The aims of CLIC are fourfold: (1) content: to introduce primarily 5th-6th grade English teachers from Japan to task-based language instruction integrating content and language into communicative classroom experiences, (2) language: to prepare teachers with heightened English language abilities that can be used to build motivation and confidence amongst pupils, (3) instruction: to train teachers using real-world practice opportunities that will empower them through newfound pedagogical practices for the 21st century communicative classroom, and (4) confluence: to incorporate all skills into a train-the-trainer model where teachers can bring their knowledge to peer teachers and teacher mentees in Japan.
